On the morning of May 27th, the Opening Ceremony of the 2019 ASEAN Chinese Teachers’ Training Program in China of the 12th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week was held in Mianxue Hall of the Academy of Chinese Culture at GZU. The program offers training for 37 teachers of Chinese from various countries including Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, France and South Korea. Attending the ceremony were leaders from the Secretariat of the Organizing Committee of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, GZU’s key leaders from the Office of International Relations and the College of International Education, and all the program trainees.

WONG CHOY NGO, a representative from Malaysia, gave a speech. On behalf of all the trainees, she expressed her gratitude to GZU for the considerable thought and careful planning that went into the program, which provides trainees with opportunities to better understand Chinese culture and the local people. In addition, they get to enjoy Guizhou’s unique scenery. She noted that all the teachers involved in the program will make the most of this opportunity to learn from one another in a bid to enhance their understanding of traditional Chinese culture. Through sharing and learning, the teachers are expected to make progress in their Chinese communicative skills so as to contribute to cultural exchange between China and ASEAN countries.

The “ASEAN Chinese Teachers’ Training Program in China” is sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), offering scholarships for overseas  teachers of Chinese working full-time and part-time for Confucius Institutes, including teachers from primary schools, middle schools and colleges in foreign countries. GZU has organized the training program for three years in a row. This year it will be held from May 26th to June 2nd and is designed for teachers of Chinese from ASEAN and other countries to “Perceive China, Experience Guizhou,” which is the theme of the weeklong program, concentrating on traditional Chinese culture.
