On November 15, Shen Yiqin, secretary of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Guizhou Provincial People’s Congress, publicized at Guizhou University (GZU) the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and the Second Plenary Session of the 13th Guizhou Provincial Committee.
A symposium was held at GZU, presided over by Lu Yongzheng, a member of the Standing Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee. Present at the meeting were Shen Yiqin, other officials from the Provincial Committee and People’s Government, leaders and representatives of GZU.
Shen delivered a speech, highlighting the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress as a top political priority for the present time and the years to come. She said that colleges and universities in Guizhou Province should ensure the principles are studied and effectively implemented to achieve new accomplishments in higher education and contribute to building a modern socialist country.
Afterwards, Shen talked with the representatives of GZU teachers and students and studied the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress together with them. After listening to the speeches by six representatives, Shen shared with the attendees her understanding of the guiding principles based on the concreate situations of the Party, the State, Guizhou Province and GZU. She urged that all units should participate in the campaign of studying and implementing the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress.
Shen stressed the significance of “Two Establishments” (establishment of Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central committee and in the party as a whole and establishment of the guiding role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era) as a major political achievement made by the Chinese Communists in the new era and a decisive factor in advancing historical achievements and historical changes in the cause of the Party and the country, the importance of “Two Upholds” (upholding General Secretary Xi Jinping’s core position on the CPC Central Committee and in the Party as a whole, and upholding the Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership), and loyalty to the Party as the defining feature of every Party member.
Shen explained the implications of “Chinese modernization”, and said thatfor Guizhou Province, socialist modernization in all respects is a political task of momentousness and honor, a formidable task with bright future but with long journey to go, and an urgent task of great priority. The whole province should uphold high-quality development as an overarching task.
Shen said that in light with President Xi’s highlight of the foundational and strategic role of education, science and technology and human resources, the universities and colleges in Guizhou should focus on the strategy of “Invigorating China through Science and Education and Developing a Strong Workforce for the Modernization Drive”, and stay committed to cultivating talents for the Party and the state. She hopes GZU to build itself into a comprehensive and high-level university with domestic and international reputation and make contributions to the national rejuvenation and Guizhou’s development by fostering talents of higher learning.
Shen urged that the youth in Guizhou should follow the Party and its guidance, devote themselves to the cause of the Party and the people, and strive to be the new era’s great young generation, a generation with ideals, a sense of responsibility, grit, and dedication.
Beside the symposium, Shen visited the Key Laboratory of Green Pesticides & Agricultural Bioengineering funded by the Ministry of Education and the new History Museum of GZU to inspect GZU’s discipline construction, scientific research, transformation of scientific and technological achievements, talent cultivation and social services. She urged the university to focus on the breakthrough in leading scientific and technological research, achieve more fruitful results in scientific research and transform them into productivity.
She also extended her congratulations to the university on the 120th anniversary of its founding and recognized the achievements GZU has made since its inception. She stressed the need to strengthen research of the university history for the better demonstration of these achievements and its historical and cultural heritage, to inspire teachers, students and alumni to carry forward its excellent traditions, and thus to make greater contributions in the new era and forge ahead on a new journey.
