The Third Congress of GZU Youth League Committee Successfully Held

On the morning of December 14, the Third Congress of the Communist Youth League of GZU was held in the Xishan Theater on the West Campus. Under the supervision of the Provincial Youth League Committee and the CPC GZU Committee, the congress, which embodied the joint efforts of all GZU Youth League members, reiterated the importance of studying, publicizing and implementing in depth the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC. Key leaders in attendance at the event included Shi Qilin, secretary of the Provincial Youth League Committee; Li Jianjun, secretary of the CPC GZU Committee; Song Bao’an, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of GZU; Luo Changjiang and Linghu Caitao, deputy secretaries of the CPC GZU Committee; Tang Wenwen, secretary of the GZU Discipline Inspection Commission; and Zhou Shaoqi, Qi Si, Zhang Dalin, Chen Xiangsheng, and Wu Pan, vice presidents of GZU. Through a combination of online and offline means, the event was also attended by heads of the university’s party–masses relations departments and other affiliated units, Party secretaries and deputy secretaries of the schools and colleges, and representatives of Youth League members from across the university. The opening ceremony of the congress was presided over by Song Hongqing, deputy secretary of the GZU Youth League Committee.

Shi Qilin, on behalf of the Provincial Youth League Committee, fully affirmed the achievements made by the GZU Communist Youth League in recent years under the strong leadership of the CPC GZU Committee. He commended the Youth League Committee’s efforts in studying and implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important thoughts on youth work. He noted that great progress has been registered as the GZU Youth League Committee closely focused on fundamental tasks, main lines  of work and political responsibilities, and continuously advanced in such areas as ideological guidance, organizational strengthening, innovation and entrepreneurship, social practice and voluntary service. Affectionately recalling the years he had spent at GZU studying and working, he expressed his hope that GZU’s Youth League and Student Union work would live up to what the name of the university suggestsquality and extensiveness, and would elevate GZU as an educationally dedicated and organizationally strengthened institution.


Li Jianjun pointed out that the Youth League organizations at all levels in the university provide a vital link between the Party and the youth, bringing the youth closer to the Party and uniting them to serve the work of the university, which contributes to the university’s reform and high-quality development. On behalf of the CPC GZU Committee, he expressed four hopes concerning GZU’s Youth League and Student Union work, the Youth League staff and especially the general youth. According to him, young teachers and students should be guided to do the following: to strengthen their ideals and beliefs, to obey the call the Party, and to be a new generation with love for the Party, the country and GZU; to focus on central tasks, to assist GZU in its development, and to be a new generation of aspiration and ambition; to study diligently and think profoundly, to hone their skills, and to be a new generation to meet great responsibilities; to embrace reform and innovation, to exercise strict governance over the League, and to be a new generation to confront challenges.


Song Bao’an presented honorary flags to the Young Teachers and Students Publicity Group for Promoting the Spirit of the Party’s 20th National Congress, the Young Doctors Shock Brigade for Rural Revitalization, the Young Doctors Shock Brigade for New Industrialization, and the Young Returnees Social Practice Service Group.


On behalf of the second committee of the Communist Youth League of GZU, Liu Kui, secretary of the Youth League Committee, made a work report which reviews and summarizes the achievements and experiences of the Youth League organizations at all levels in GZU over the past eight years. He also clarified some development prospects regarding the university’s Youth League work for the next five years.


This congress is an important meeting held on the occasion of the whole university studying, publicizing, and implementing the spirit of the Party’s 20th National Congress. It is a major event in the political life of the university’s Youth League members, a new beginning whereby the GZU Youth League Committee takes stock of the past and looks into the future. Through online or offline means, 240 teacher and student representatives from across the university joined in the discussion of the future development of GZU’s Youth League and Student Union work, demonstrating the vigorous spirit of the GZU Youth League members in the new era and the outlook of a united, democratic, pragmatic and active youth work organization.
