On July 27, the 20th Cross-Strait Symposium on Carbon Materials was held at the Confucius Academy of Guiyang in Huaxi District. This symposium was jointly initiated by Tsinghua University and Feng Chia University and was hosted by Guizhou University.

Distinguished attendees at the opening ceremony included Academician Cheng Huiming from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Dai Nianhua from National Tsinghua University (Hsinchu), Professor Kang Feiyu from the Tsinghua University Shenzhen Graduate School, Professor Yang Quanhong from Tianjin University, Researcher Ren Wencai and Researcher Li Feng from the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Lin Jianhong, the head of the Materials Science Department at National University of Tainan, Professor Zhang Qiang from Tsinghua University, Professor Chen Jian from Sichuan University of Science & Engineering, and GZU Vice President, Professor Wu Pan. The ceremony was hosted by Liu Jian, the Party Secretary of GZU’s College of Materials and Metallurgy.

In his speech, Wu Pan warmly welcomed the experts and scholars attending the symposium and briefly introduced Guizhou University and its materials science discipline. He emphasized that the "dual carbon" goal (to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060) is vital for the sustainable development of the Chinese nation and building a community with a shared future for humanity. This symposium, he stressed, serves as a platform to enhance the exchange of cutting-edge research findings and industry advancements in carbon materials between scholars from both sides of the strait. Such collaborations are poised to elevate research standards in related fields and provide a substantial catalyst for the innovative advancement of carbon materials in China, thereby contributing to the attainment of the "dual carbon" goal. As one of the hosts of this symposium, he expressed his hope for the establishment of fruitful cooperative relationships between GZU and other esteemed institutions, further propelling the high-quality development of GZU’s materials science discipline.

Dai Nianhua, in his address, highlighted the steady growth of theCross-Strait Symposium on Carbon Materials over two decades, with an expanding scope and increasing depth in cross-strait exchanges. He urged scholars from both sides to leverage this opportunity for scholarly discourse, mutual learning, and the collaborative development of the cross-strait carbon materials industry.

Kang Feiyu expressed his optimism that this symposium could serve as a pivotal moment to broaden cooperation in the realm of carbon materials across the strait. He envisioned joint efforts in tackling the challenges posed by carbon peak and carbon neutrality, ultimately contributing to the realization of a shared future for humanity.

From July 27th to 28th, over 100 experts and scholars from universities across the strait convened to deliberate on the development of carbon materials against the backdrop of the “dual carbon” goal. Among them, 41 distinguished experts will present keynote reports addressing two principal themes: "Carbon Materials for Energy Storage and Environmental Protection" and "Nanoscale Carbon Materials." These presentations will encompass their latest research findings and cutting-edge research concepts.
