GZU Holds Report Meeting of the National First-class Discipline Construction Sites

On September 4th, a meeting to report the achievements of the first batch of national first-class discipline construction sites of Guizhou University was held in the Xianzheng Building. Chen Xiangsheng, Vice President of GZU, chaired the meeting. representatives from relevant functional departments, colleges, teaching and research departments, and heads of the national and provincial first-class major construction sites attended the meeting.

Academician Song Bao’an, President of GZU, outlined the plans for the evaluation of undergraduate education and teaching, as well as the construction of first-class disciplines at the meeting. Song stated that since 2019, with the collective efforts of all teachers and students, Guizhou University has achieved notable results in major development, discipline construction, teaching achievements, and talent cultivation. In September 2024, GZU will undergo an evaluation for undergraduate education and teaching by the Ministry of Education. All the departments of the university should attach great importance to the evaluation and work hard to actively engage with it. Song further pointed out that we should spare no efforts to increase the intensity of talent introduction, improve incentive measures, enhance teachers’ teaching ability, so as to achieve breakthroughs in national-level teaching competitions. At the end of his speech, Song stressed the importance of meticulous planning and preparation for the upcoming evaluation, especially in collecting and reporting accurate data.

During the meeting, heads of the 17 national first-class discipline construction sites reported on their outcomes. It was reported that our university has continuously promoted the construction of disciplines and improved the level of teaching. As a result, a total of 84 first-class discipline construction sites have been approved, with 52 majors selected at the national level and 32 at the provincial level. In terms of discipline construction, the school currently has 11 national first-class courses, 5 “Tuojin Plan” courses under the Ministry of Education, and 97 provincial “golden courses”. Two courses have been selected as national-level exemplary courses on political philosophy, and 14 projects have been chosen as provincial-level exemplary projects on political philosophy. In addition, one national-level exemplary studio for political philosophy education has been established. Last year, GZU won 41 prizes in the Higher Education Teaching Achievement Awards of Guizhou Province, making significant accomplishments across various categories. Furthermore, the number of undergraduates who further their studies after graduation has increased year by year, with a continuing education rate of 38%, and the pass rate of CET-4 and CET-6 has reached 78.2%.
