Symposium on Development of Journalism and Communication Disciplines Held at GZU

On April 27th, the symposium on cultural inheritance and innovation and development of journalism and communication disciplines was held at Guizhou University. Forty experts and academic journal leaders from more than 30 universities nationwide attended the symposium. The symposium facilitated in-depth dialogues on advancing journalism and communication disciplines, fostering international communication talents, and education-related challenges in these fields.

During the opening ceremony, Luo Changjiang, Vice Secretary of the University Party Committee, warmly welcomed the experts and scholars in attendance. He emphasized the symposium’s pertinent theme, which focuses on cultural inheritance and innovation to enhance the development of journalism and communication disciplines with Chinese characteristics and promote international communication talent training. Over the years, with the support of the attending experts, the College of Literature and Communication of GZU has made significant strides in research areas such as ethnic communication, rural communication, and film and television communication. The symposium is expected to further facilitate exchanges, broaden perspectives, and deepen cooperation. Guizhou University is dedicated to upholding Xi Jinping thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, integrating Xi Jinpings cultural theories, and nurturing skilled journalists for the Party, with the goal of advancing the Party’s news sector through high-quality contributions.

In an effort to support the development of GZU’s College of Literature and Communication and contribute to the study of revolutionary culture, the Association of National History of the PRC and Huaxia Biography (Beijing) Cultural Development Co., Ltd. have donated 10,000 minutes of historical footage of the PRC to Guizhou University. Zhang Xingxing, Secretary-General of the Association and Wang Zhu, Chairman of Huaxia Biography (Beijing), presented the materials to GZU. Luo Changjiang, representing GZU, expressed gratitude by presenting a donation certificate to the generous donors.

Following that, Professor Yu Qingchu, the former chief editor of Peoples Daily Online, presided over the theme speech session at the symposium. Professors and scholars from prestigious universities across the country presented captivating keynote speeches on a variety of topics, including AI-enhanced communication, international communication theory with Chinese characteristics, journalism education, and digital convergence. Some of the esteemed speakers included Professor Cheng Manli from Peking University, Professor Chen Changfeng from Tsinghua University, Professor Zhou Yong from Renmin University of China, Professor Wu Fei from Zhejiang University, Professor Cheng Lihong from Liaoning University, and Professor Zeng Xiangmin from Communication University of China.

The symposium in the afternoon centered on Cultural Innovation and the Development of Journalism and Communication disciplines with Chinese Characteristics as well as Journalism and Communication Education and the Cultivation of International Communication Talents. Scholars present were engaged in discussions on various topics including “Algorithmic Imagination”, “International Communication”, “Intelligent Media”, “International Communication Talent Development”, “Generative Artificial Intelligence”, and “Journalism and Communication Education”.
