GZU Holds Art-Focused Ideology Lecture

On May 9, the 13th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s visit to Guizhou University (GZU) in 2011, an ideology lecture with a focus on art was held in the university’s Xishan Theater. Titled “The Beauty of Confidence and Conscientiousness”, the lecture was among a series of events for of GZU’s 8th Annual Youth Forum.

The lecturers included Zou Lianke, deputy secretary of the Education Committee of the CPC Guizhou Committee and director of the Department of Education of Guizhou Province; Yang Wei, secretary of the CPC Committee of Guizhou University; Qin Fazhong, prominent local artist and craftsman as well as certified inheritor of “Anshun Tunpu (‘fortress village’) Culture”; Wang Yucheng, vice president of Huaxi Rural Commercial Bank, GZU alumnus and participant of Xishan Forum; Xie Chengji, a GZU faculty representative; and Gao Lei, a doctoral student of GZU’s School of Resources and Environmental Engineering and a well-known "PhD Village Chief". Sitting among the 600-strong audience were Song Guangqiang, deputy secretary of the Education Committee of the CPC Guizhou Committee; GZU President Song Bao’an; presidents of other universities in Guizhou and GZU’s staff and student representatives.

The four-section lecture combined on-site talks and art performances. In the first section, Mr. Qin Fazhong talked about his four-decade-long experience of preserving the Tunpu culture, which dates back six centuries to the beginning of China’s Ming Dynasty. In the second section, Dr. Xie Chengji spoke of Guizhou’s importance to the history of the People’s Republic of China and the development of the Communist Party.

In the third section of the lecture, Professor Yang Wei, along with Mr. Wang Yucheng and Mr. Gao Lei, recalled President Xi Jinping’s messages to China’s youths and encouraged students to put these messages into practice and step up their efforts as preservers of traditional Chinese culture and pioneers in China’s cultural advancement. The final lecturing section was a talk given by Mr. Zou Lianke, who urged teachers and students of Guizhou’s higher learning institutes to excel in their own work and integrate it into the advancement of China’s modernization process.

The art performances included dance, traditional opera, a skit, and chorus presented by local artists and GZU faculty and students.
